A Fully Furnished Home Purchased in 1.5 Days

A Friday phone call and a Sunday arrival

I remember Árni very well because from our first conversation it was clear that he acted quickly and decisively. He called me on Friday and said he would arrive in Poland on Sunday to buy the materials needed to finish and furnish a house intended for resale.

I told him I would be happy to help, but I was getting married the next day. I therefore had virtually no time for our usual preparation, and the extremely short period between the first call and his arrival came as a complete surprise.

We agreed to begin with the most important needs and organise the remaining decisions as the meetings progressed. In this case, speed was not an obstacle. Árni knew the result he wanted and was able to make decisions quickly.

A house prepared for resale

Árni was not furnishing the house solely for himself. The materials and equipment were meant to create an attractive, complete property that he intended to sell.

Such a project requires balance. Every additional expense affects the profitability of the investment, but excessive savings on visible or heavily used elements can reduce the value of the house and buyers’ interest.

My role was to help him distinguish between products where costs could reasonably be reduced and those where quality and functionality would matter more to the future owner.

Purchasing at an entrepreneur’s pace

Árni made decisions quickly, but not randomly. He asked about the key differences, compared price with practical value and moved on to the next item on the list.

In only a day and a half, we purchased practically all the materials needed to finish and furnish the house. The order included timber, plywood, bathroom equipment and a kitchen.

With such a short visit, it was essential to avoid unnecessary travel and focus on suppliers where the customer could receive a specific offer, compare solutions and decide without delay.

The cheapest option is not always the best choice

During the visit, we also discussed solutions that had worked well for our Icelandic customers. One example was an induction hob with an integrated extractor, which helps preserve an open and visually clean kitchen space.

The objective was not to select the most expensive products. It was to spend money where functionality, appearance or durability could genuinely increase the attractiveness of the entire property.

In other categories, the calculation was simpler: choose a product that met the requirements of the investment without paying for features that would not add value to the house.

PLN 140,000 spent and PLN 140,000 saved

By the time we summarised the visit, we already knew the order values and could compare them with the prices Árni expected to pay in Iceland.

He described the result in one simple sentence:

I spent PLN 140,000 here and saved PLN 140,000.

The scale of the difference was remarkable

This summary surprised me as well. At that time, before the sharp price increases associated with the pandemic, the differences between Poland and Iceland in some categories were enormous.

For example, plasterboards in Poland cost approximately six times less than comparable products available in Iceland at the time.

Naturally, not every category produced the same level of savings. The overall result showed how much could be achieved through efficient decisions, good market knowledge and purchasing many parts of the project during one visit.

The house sold within two days

After returning to Iceland, Árni completed the work and prepared the property for sale. The house found a buyer within two days of the advertisement being published.

According to the customer’s summary, purchasing in Poland improved the result of the investment by approximately PLN 140,000. This represented the savings on materials and equipment compared with buying similar products in Iceland.

What impressed me most was how little time passed between the first phone call and completing the purchases. Árni’s story shows that even a very fast project can produce a strong result when the customer is ready to decide and has someone in Poland who knows the market and can guide him directly to suitable solutions.

What this story shows

Not every customer needs several days to compare every available possibility. Sometimes the greatest value comes from a clear plan, access to suitable suppliers and specific answers that make quick action possible.

Árni arrived in Poland with a clear business objective. In a day and a half, he completed the purchases for the house, reduced the cost of the investment and later sold the finished property quickly.

At The Fixer, we adapt our working style to the customer. We do not slow down someone who is ready to decide, but we also make sure that speed does not mean overlooking details that may affect the final result.
